Well I cleaned out the fluid expansion catch bottle on the weekend,used some hydrochloric acid to clean the rust stains out. That worked well too. I also topped up the Scottoiler. Today I've just put a proprietary brand product in it Muckowt by Tectaloy. The fluid (distilled water) I drained was looking fairly clean. This is good news as it has done a few hundred click in some fairly hot weather, I was kind of expecting it to look worse. I'll give the Muckowt a few rides before changing it ...
88,876 K's because the coolant was really foul I did a fluid change, drained the dark crap flushed the system with hose water then filled it with distilled water. I then went for a test ride around the neighbourhood to get it up to temperature, when I got home I let it run until the auxilary fan came on everything is looking good. I plan to change the fluid again soon at least once I'll see how much crap comes out with the next change. I'm looking for a good quality coolant after that, maybe Toyota ...
Put the bike up on the main stand to check the chain tension,all good I put about 15 mils of lubricant in the Scottoiler I also readjusted the flow upwards a little. Then I checked the coolant & found some rust coloured mayonnaise inside the overflow tank. I need to check on this but I'm not overly concerned about it. My mate had some issues with the cooling system before he sold it back to me. His mechanic replaced some plumbing in the cool system, flushed it then got it back later ...
